The SOU “Josif Josifovski” was established in 1952 as a secondary general education school and in 1976 merged with the vocational school of metalworking “Risto Pop-Ristov”. Thus, the School Center “Josif Josifovski” for Secondary Education was created, which includes 19 classes of general education and 6 classes of vocational education in metalworking. In the 1978/79 school year, the catering and tourism branch was introduced. Subsequently, the branches of economics, commerce, and law and the sector of healthcare and social protection were added.

In 2007, with the implementation of the decentralization process, the Municipality of Gevgelija took the school under its competencies, so that the school now operates as Municipal High School (SOU) “Josif Josifovski”. The school now provides education for the gymnasium education and vocational education that consists of the branches of economy, trade and law, mechanical engineering, catering & tourism and healthcare and social protection.

The school this year has enrolled 681 students and a total of 75 teachers provide the instructions in the School. SOU “Josif Josifovski” is fully equipped with 75 computers, 45 LCD Projectors, 1 lap top, 4 smart boards, four digital cameras, 2 workshops for the mechanical branch, 2 biology cabinets, 1 physcics cabinet, 1 chemistry cabinet, 2 information technology cabinets, 1 art cabinet, 1 music cabinet and diagnostic apparatus for the mechatronic cabinet, 2 universal measurement instruments, 1 school library and 1 media center. 

Activities, experiences, skills and expertise

The School has been awarded with two VET  in the field of Vocational Education and Training. It also has successfully implemented the following EU funded projects to date: Eco Project, Globe, SPIN, Macedonia’s Citizens – A Window to an Active Citizenship, Real Company, Sustainable Tourism Development, Horse Industry and Tourism, Molecular gastronomy, Introduction to E-business, Digital Marketing and Cooking, Business Start-up for young entrepreneurs and tourism and catering training, Project Management and Hospitality and Cooking Training. Furthermore, it regularly participates in numerous competitions in all vocational subjects and social and natural sciences at regional, national, and international levels and has been awarded many prizes. 

Students are involved in different project activities such as: drama, school choir, sports club, media club, mathematics club, physics club, biology club, geography club, chemistry club, foreign languages club and social sciences club. Those who participate in school clubs have become active citizens in their local community, participating in cultural and artistic events, humanitarian aid, sports events, and various activities aimed at promoting students’ rights, freedom, diversity, inclusive education, a green economy, and entrepreneurship. Moreover, teachers tend to invest in their knowledge and aim to attend creative workshops and seminars in the field of new world challenges in all aspects.
